PARADISE FOUND

Revisioning the Garden of Earthly Delights

On View: August 4 — August 27, 2023.

Opening Reception: August 4, 2023, 6:00pm - 9:00pm.

Featured Artist: Lizzy Tilley

Lizzy Tilley is determined to show her viewers the urgency of embracing Mother Earth through her emotionally charged pieces of black apocalyptic imagery. Accompanying her pieces that depict imagery of dire warning, Tilley dwells in the land of hope and is never far from her flower beds and floral patterned downy comforter quilts which elicits a sense of optimism. Tilley digs deep into the happy place of her heart that wants to believe in humanity’s ability to reconcile with the environmental stresses that threaten to drastically alter our planet beyond repair. In hopes to lead viewers into seeing and understanding the Genesis “awakening” myth, she makes use of symbolism to depict notions of how feminine curiosity of knowing can open humanity into the boundlessness of our potential and sacred connection with Mother Earth. Through themes of universal consciousness and oneness with our environment, Tilley takes us Back to the Garden of peace, prosperity, and health as she returns to the Native American concept of “one bowl, one spoon,” which translates the message that we all have only one planet to sustain us and any harm done to the planet will have a direct impact on humanity as a whole.

A Note From The Artist…

“Let’s be real. The paradise we live in is virtually lost if we don’t change hard now to save it. This weighs on my mind so intensely every day that I’m determined to try to show my fellow humans what paradise can be found here, if we would only SEE it. If we’d only embrace our Mother Earth and each other with the love, respect and care they deserve. My humble attempt is what you see in this exhibit. I realize that everything I’ve made for the last ten years has related to this idea in one way or another. Sometimes I feel dark despair, and paint black apocalyptic pieces of dire warning. But, I guess because I dwell in a land of hope, and am never far from my flower beds with my downy comforter of optimistic colors all around me, in my garden, in my clothing, in my home, and my paint box, I make art that is in the happy place in my heart that wants to believe we’ll figure it out before it’s too late. Help me believe this, won’t you? Vote for, and stand by the change makers who care about climate change more than any other issue. Take up a cause yourself, and be active in protesting the disregard for our earth, and all that encompasses.”
